Little Frog Park — Oakland

How cute is this toddler version of Big Frog Park? Little Frog has all the elements of its big sibling up the street but far less intimidating than the giant wooden fort found at big frog.

Snuggled in a redwood grove with just one way in and a tall gated enclosure around, it’s a great spot for little ones to explore with an incredible amount of shade.

There are four main elements of this playground- a steeple tower with a rope bridge and short slide down the back, a building with a platform and window holes perfect for imaginative play, another tower with spiral stairs leading to a lookout deck and wide slide, and a ship styled play area that appears to be sailing right into the sandbox. The sandbox has a beautiful mosaic wall around filled with colorful sea animals. Along the inside of the gate, there are benches and a small hut built-in. Trickled through the play area are community donated toys including ride on trikes, play kitchens, slides, and activity tables.

Outside of the gate is a small dry creek landscape with a dirt path and benches.

We came here with friends and it was great to have some adult time out of the gate while we knew our kids were safely playing inside.

No bathrooms. Street parking.

It’s about an 8 min walk to Big Frog along the Rockridge - Temescal green belt. Just a half-block up the Greenbelt trail (the sidewalk) is a nice smaller-sized grassy space with benches.
